Join us for an engaging coffee morning talk on 28 March with Charlotte Bell, PhD candidate in Archaeology, as she explores the limited nature of inscriptions and how they shape our understanding of personhood in Roman Britain.
Charlotte says, “I have conducted epigraphic analysis of all known female tombstones to create a better understanding of gender in Roman Britain. The fragmentary inscription panel on Vedica’s tombstone raises even more intriguing questions about who she was and how she came to be in Ilkley. However, my analysis of inscriptions offers new insights, and I will present the findings from Vedica’s stone, the largest female tombstone in Roman Britain.”
Tickets to attend the talk in person are £5 and can be purchased via TicketTailor by clicking this link or in person at the Box Office on weekends when Ilkley Manor House is open. Tickets may be available on the door but will be subject to availability.
Arrive at Ilkley Manor House at 10:15am to have time to get a hot drink and biscuit. The talk will start at 10:30am, lasting roughly an hour, with time for questions at the end.
