In 2014 the Ilkley U3A Craft Group, embarked on a project to show the wide variety of needlecraft skills practiced by their members.
Using 10 inch squares, each person opted for a skill they enjoy with their own personal choice of colour, texture, fabric and yarn.
The theme Hands that Help enabled members to highlight the regular items they make for community outreach work, both locally and internationally, and the skills they teach each other in a friendly and supportive environment.
The result is an exhibition of three colourful, textural and visual panels that identify both the needlecraft skills employed and the name of the maker.
During the weekends of late July, August and early September members of the U3A Craft Group will be on hand to talk about their work. There will be information and interpretation boards for those visitors who may want to learn more about these needlecrafts.
Traditionally, such combined projects have shown how a group can come together in friendship and with a common purpose to create a lasting display that will become a striking emblem of its time and place.
The exhibition’s timing coincides with the 25th anniversary of Ilkley & District U3A and the 40th anniversary of the National U3A
