The Manor House is Ilkley’s most historic building, but how much of its history do you know?
Local historian Mike Dixon gives you the chance to find out about its possible origins, its development over several centuries and its more recent decline, and rescue. During Mike’s hour-long tour you will be shown the main elements of the building and their significance, from the cross-passage, buttery and kitchen to the main room with its massive fireplace and oriel bay. Moving upstairs into the solar wing we note the massive timbers that support the roof of the medieval hall. Finally in the upstairs gallery we can appreciate the dimensions of the original hall and see the entrance to a possible minstrels’ gallery.
