Open Saturday and Sunday and at other times when the manor House is open.
From an initial friendship between two teachers at the end of WW2, and the subsequent
links between their schools in Ilkley and in Coutances, a firm foundation was laid for a
formal twinning between the two towns.
The official twinning agreement was signed on 18 May 1969 by representatives of both towns. Since then, the links between the two towns have flourished, and this exhibition illustrates many aspects of the connections and regular visits between organisations of the two towns.
There have been regular exchanges between the Lycée Lebrun and Ilkley Grammar School and between many of the towns’ clubs and groups, including the swimming clubs, Rotary Clubs, scout groupsand more recently between choirs and jazz musicians.
The Ilkley-Coutances Town Twinning Committee meets regularly and organises visits to
Coutances every two years and visits of colleagues and friends from Coutances on
alternate years.
The Twinning Committee raises funds for these activities and benefits from support from Ilkley Town Council.
The Committee welcomes new members, whether just becoming aware of our links with Coutances or with experience of the earlier links between our towns.
