PERFORMANCE: Talking Stock – Le Grand Return

24th May 2024
7:30 pm - 9:15 pm

Award-winning Yorkshire Theatre company, Talking Stock Productions, is bringing one of its most successful plays to Ilkley Manor House as part of a tour to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

‘Le Grand Return’ by Calderdale playwright Alan Stockdill is a gentle comedy-drama about love, remembrance, war, and peace. It is 1994 and the 50th anniversary of D-Day looms. Tommy, Alf, and Edwin are incarcerated in Coldrick Nursing Home. In spite of his ever-worsening heart condition, plucky veteran Tommy is determined to break out and rejoin his old comrades on the Normandy beaches and visit the grave of his best friend who died at the scene, George. But how will they escape… and what will happen along the way?

Winner of the Best New Writing award at the Greater Manchester Fringe, and winner of Woodbridge Drama Festival.

“Le Grand Return is a really beautifully written and touching play, funny, yet also so poignant. It ticked all the boxes for us. Everyone who saw it raved about it.”

“Beautifully expressed, several people near to us were in tears, it was difficult not to join them. I hope many take the opportunity to see Le Grand Return – I urge them to do so. This is truly what theatre is all about.”

The play lasts 75 minutes and will be followed by an optional Q&A session with the writer, producer, and actors.

Tickets are £12 and may be purchased online through Eventbrite (a booking fee is payable), or in person through the Box Office when the House opens on weekends.

Tickets may be available on the door but will be subject to availability, and we cannot guarantee admission.

The performance begins at 7:30pm and doors open at 7:00pm. Refreshments will be available prior to the performance and during the interval.

Timings are approximate.
