Following the great success of the resent Guitar, the Heart of Spain concert, we are delighted to announce that the distinguished flamenco guitarist Samuel Moore will return to the Manor House in 2020 to present three new concerts. Spread out throughout the year, each of Samuel’s forthcoming recitals explores a different aspect of the flamenco tradition.
In the final concert of his 2020 residency at the Manor House, the distinguished flamenco guitarist Samuel Moore performs alongside a handpicked company of flamenco dancers and singers. Collectively this ensemble will conjure for you the powerful rhythms, colours and sounds of Andalucía in a burst of virtuosity, passion and individuality.
Samuel Moore’s Flamenco Dance concert will be preceded by a 40 min pre concert talk. During this event Samuel and members of his flamenco ensemble will explain to you in detail the theme of the Flamenco Dance concert programme and describe how flamenco dancers, singers and guitarists interact when performing together. The pre concert talk will feature both live demonstrations and a Q&A.
Samuel Moore – Biography
Hailed as “A fantastic flamenco guitarist” (BBC Radio 3), Samuel Moore is fast establishing himself as one of the UK’s leading flamenco musicians. Since 2007 he has performed in venues across the UK, Europe and North America.
Samuel initially learnt his craft by working with the recordings of great flamenco maestros of the past and producing transcriptions of their pieces. He later became a student of the world-renowned flamenco guitarist Juan Martín. This five-year period of study was funded by Help Musicians UK and Arts Council England. Always keen to learn, Samuel has also attended master classes led by other leading flamenco artists, including the great Paco Peña.
In October 2019 Samuel released his first studio album, Guitar the Heart of Spain. Recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London, Guitar the Heart of Spain marked the culmination of Samuel’s unique collaboration with the classical guitarist Michael Christian Durrant. Samuel is currently preparing to record his first solo album, Flamenco Puro.
When not on tour or recording, Samuel enjoys passing on his musical knowledge through teaching. Between 2012-2017 he held the permanent teaching post of Course Leader for Flamenco Guitar Studies at the Instituto de Cervantes. Furthermore, Samuel has also been invited to lead flamenco workshops at The University of Cambridge, The University of Leeds and Newcastle University.
Amongst Samuel’s other notable achievements are the establishment and overseeing of the Leeds International Flamenco Festival between 2013-2017 and working as an orchestral transcriber for the Gil Evans Estate between 2010-2013. Also, in 2017 Samuel was commissioned to compose music for the major film Lost In London. Samuel also appeared in the film itself, performing his solo compositions in a scene featuring the Hollywood actors Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson.
Samuel plays Kevin Richards guitars and uses D’addario guitar strings.
