In 2020, Bard in the Yard consisted of a selection of Shakespearian monologues. In 2021 it was half-hour versions of Macbeth and Twelfth Night. Both were extremely well received and well attended. This year it will be a half-hour version of “Romeo and Juliet” directed by Dick Hebbert plus half an hour of 6-8 Shakespearian duologues directed by Andrew Leggott.
Performances will be at 7-30 in the Wildman Studio at Ilkley Playhouse on Saturday 27th August and at 2-00 pm in the open air at the Manor House Yard on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th August (Bank Holiday)
SHAKESPEARIAN DUOLOGUES
These will be significant duologues from various Shakespeare plays, each about five minutes in length. We shall do 6-8 of these, to make up about 30 minutes. The context of each will be explained to the audience in advance, so they can sample a variety of the Bard’s great works.
ROMEO AND JULIET
Dick Hebbert, the Director, writes:
“On a late summer’s day Ilkley Playhouse brings a pair of star-crossed lovers to the Manor House Yard in a half hour version of one of Shakespeare’s most famous and most loved plays.
Loving both unwisely and too well, Romeo and Juliet’s impossible dream bestrides the implacable enmity of their families across the Yorkshire flagstones. Sword play, potions, poison, tombs at the dead of night. It’s not going to end well… ”
For tickets for the Saturday evening performance in the Wildman Theatre, please visit the Ilkley Playhouse website.
