The Ilkley Manor House Trust began running Ilkley Manor House in April 2018, taking back control of the House from Bradford Council. It has since brought the main House and Victorian cottages back into full use for the benefit of the local community, local creative businesses and visitors.
So, what’s actually changed since 2018? Not only has the Trust secured official Arts Council England Museum Accreditation for Ilkley Manor House, but it has worked tirelessly to create a sustainable framework in order to be able to continue offering a vibrant heritage, arts, leisure and learning centre for Ilkley.
Exhibitions
The historical display areas and art exhibition space within the House have been retained and improved with new lighting and display facilities.
Creative Community Offices
There are three Victorian cottages located within the Courtyard that belong to Ilkley Manor House. The Trust aims to support local creative businesses and lets the space to small, independent enterprises alongside artists and makers. The rent from these spaces in turn generates a modest income for the Trust that, in addition to any profit from events, helps give Ilkley Manor House a sustainable future.
Access
The Ilkley Manor House Trust appreciates that the setting and physical layout of the House may present accessibility challenges. They are constantly looking at ways of improving access and are committed to developing creative solutions that are sensitive to their surroundings, within the context of a listed medieval building.
