We are pleased to announce the reopening of The Solar Gallery on Saturday, 3rd July 2021, with an exhibition of work created by local artists. A wide selection of paintings, drawings, and prints will be offered for sale, as well as ceramics, textiles, and jewellery. The gallery space is located on the upper floor of the Manor House Museum and is open every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
The ‘NEW HORIZONS’ exhibition will showcase highlights from the recent work of a thirty-strong collective based in and around Ilkley. In parallel to the challenges experienced in many other sectors, the closure of museums, galleries, and creative work spaces has had a dramatic impact on those who work in the creative sphere. In some cases, the constraints of lockdown have resulted in radical changes to local artists’ normal working practices; evidence of which can be seen in the artwork on display from next month. Finding inspiration in uncertain times, getting to grips with alternative mediums, and developing new skills out of necessity, shape the appearance of much of the work on show.
Alongside the work of established Solar Gallery artists such as John and Sarah Gamble, Jo Tinker, Joy Godfrey and jeweller Libby Jubb, the exhibition will include pieces by newcomers Juliet Gutch, who makes sculptural mobiles, and printmaker Katherine Fox. The Solar Gallery team look forward to welcoming you to back to The Manor House from 11am on 3rd July.
