The Story of Ilkley’s Hydros
Supporting the Hydros exhibition in the Western Gallery, Alex Cockshott will explore the origins and impact of Ilkley’s Hydros through an illustrated talk featuring captivating photographs and stories.
Starting with the “inland spa” at White Wells, Alex will trace the development of Ben Rhydding Hydro in 1844 and other establishments set up to meet popular demand — not always successfully! Through historical photos and compelling narratives, she will introduce you to the pioneering people behind these remarkable enterprises and illuminate Ilkley’s health-resort heritage and its enduring legacy.
Arrive at 10:15am to have time to get a hot drink and biscuit. The talk will start at 10:30am, lasting roughly an hour, with time for questions at the end.

Coffee morning talks usually take place on the ground floor in the housebody, however, if numbers require, the event may take place upstairs, accessed via a staircase of 18 steps with no lift. Please let us know beforehand if this would be an issue.
