Medicines from the earth: using herbs in the Middle Ages – Dr. Iona McCleery

Iona McCleery studied at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. She has worked at the University of Leeds since 2007. Between 2010 and 2014 she ran a large Wellcome Trust public engagement project on the history of medieval food, organizing events around West Yorkshire. She specialises in the history of medicine, food and healing miracles, especially for Portugal and its early empire in West Africa and the Atlantic islands. Her most recent publication is: ‘Food: from healthy regimen to consumption and supply’, in a volume that she edited called The Cultural History of Medicine in the Middle Ages (2021). She is currently working on a book on food and health in West Africa.

Tickets are £3 and may be purchased online through Eventbrite (a booking fee is payable) or in person through the Box Office when the Manor House is open.

Tickets may be available on the door but will be subject to availability and admission cannot be guaranteed.
